Missed opportunity?

I am in Virginia. Found a home that had all characteristics of distressed seller. Walked up to front door and there was a piece of paper posted that said the home had been sold on 1/20/16 at a foreclosure sale to Bank of America. Did I miss my opportunity to work with owner to secure their property? Is the only opportunity to wait for house to go to market/auction at this time?
