Auction.com tutorial

I am looking for someone who purchases on auction.com to walk me through there bidding process as I am completely confused on if you are responsible for existing mortgage. For example I see an auction and did a title search and the bank has a note for $100k on the property. Am I responsible to pay off the bank or is that lien wiped out. I am willing to pay someone and not hold them liable if I am to stupid to understand it later on In the future. I have read both on this site and they say to do a title search which I do but then what is wiped out and what is not. Thanks
