Family member going into foreclosure

I have some questions regarding a family member, or close friend's family. The father of said property moved away to the states, leaving the house vacant (Not being paid for etc.) The property is moving into foreclosure. The family on island can no longer make payments to the keep the home. What are some things if any, i can do as a new investor to save the property. I know what i am asking is kind of broad, but being a new investor i don't know much on this topic. Any advice, BP Links, etc will help not only myself in learning about situations like these, but possibly help the family make use of the property.
