finding the most recent owner of the house

hi

I'm currently working on wholesale investing and I've been using the direct mail method. I went to the city's  tax appraiser website and sent a letter to the address they had listed as who owned the property. The guy calls me back and says he hasn't owned the property. So I wanted to know if there was any other way to find out who owns the property.
