Hubzu Inspection Contingency

A friend of mine just did a Hubzu transaction on a bank owned property. He said he added an inspection contingency in an addendum to the purchase agreement which was accepted.

Is this the norm? I am considering a bid on a property but I want to have an inspection period. He claims it was no problem and was told about it via another investor.
