Commercial property management

Hi all,

I need some light shed on an investment vehicle, which I'm calling commercial property management, for want of a better term. My father owned tourism based businesses, and liquidated a few years ago, his contacts got him onto a group who buy property management rights, they offered him a buy in to the next property, a resort on the Gold Coast (one of the most popular tourist destinations in Australia), this investment (which was thoroughly looked over by his accountant and lawyer) over the past 3 years has been netting him on average 18% per year, passively.

I have been thinking about looking for similar groups over here, where your money is not just spread across multiple holdings of an REIT but secured against a holding of your choice. Are these hard to get a foot in? There is an opportunity presenting itself through my father later this year, but I do like to find my own deals as well. Does anyone know of what I am looking for?

Andrew
