Motel Management from 40 min away?

So Im looking at a Small Roadside Motel about 40 minutes away.  17 Units.  Im not sure yet if they rent nightly or weekly, Im waiting for more information from them.  

My question is, right now they have a live in clerk that manages the place.  How would I be able to keep him honest?  Is there a way for me to know from a distance when each unit is rented each night /week?  Not sure it could be done with just cameras although that would be one of the first things I put in.  Just trying to see if anyone else here has experience with a small motel like this and a way to keep tabs on things without being there?

I do plan on being there at least a couple times a week to keep an eye on things, make repairs and pick up rents but not on a daily basis.
