Naming a development company

I am starting to grow as a real estate holding company primarily- getting into more commercial development eventually. Im looking to start using a name - "something realty" to stick to i guess because i like the sound of it and its less conspicuous than "development corp". Is it odd that i am more of a developer and management company but go by "realty"?

Whatever name you pick will be amazing. Getting your business started and running is much more important than the name.

Not so odd. The name is important. "Realty" sounds smaller that "Development Corp". If that's what you're looking for, it fits.

My property manager's company goes by "Realty". I think it's nice in that it's not too specific. Development Corp. is pretty specific, IMO.

Or there's "properties" .. My LLC is "Lyric Properties" for example. Maybe some day I will hatch "Lyric Development Corp", who knows?

When you do your business name search be sure to check out all the possible permutations of whatever name you choose. You don't want to pick "Matt Liu Realty" and find there's a "Matt Liu Properties" out there!

"Realty" often denotes a real estate brokerage...could be confusing.

Why not just end the name with "Properties," "Homes" or "Homebuilders"?

Is it really that confusing? I saw the google definition of realty is "real, fixed property" so I kinda like that it's open-ended and sort of unassuming. I thought about adding Realty Corporation just to sound less brokerage like and more investment like.

I'll let others chime in, but if I see a company name that ends in "Realty," I'm 99% confident that it's a brokerage firm.

I imagine many large brokerages are incorporated and have a legally registered name that ends with "Inc," "Corp," or "Corporation." Then they use a trade name that drops the ending (just like many LLCs do).

In fact, I think "Realty Corporation" or "Realty Corp" sounds a little weird and confusing.

But again, that's just me...and it's quite possible I'm in the minority here...
