Can I buy investment property as a primary residence?

I am living in a property thats under me and my wifes name. However, the mortgage is under my wife's name only. Can I buy another property (thats intended to be a investment property) with loan on my name saying that will be my primary residence since I don't have any loan on my current house? Or, since the title for my current house has me and my wife's name, current house is considered as my primary residence and any other properties I buy will be considered a commercial property?
