Purchasing First Home with Student Loans

Hello Bigger Pockets Community, 

I am a new member and have been following the community for some time now. I am hoping someone has some insight into purchasing a home while on a Income Based Repayment Plan for Fedral Student Loans. I am trying to get my ducks in a row and looking to find a multi family( duplex or triplex) in the DC Metro Area but have been told that lenders look negatively on those who are enrolled in Income Driven Repayment Plans. Does anyone know about this or have any tips for navigating mortages while in this predicament? Any inforamtion is welcomed.
