Reserves in the bank

James Woods
Posted

Hello everyone, so we are at the closing stage of a home we are buying to live in. The home will be in my name since my girlfriend doesn’t have much of any credit yet. Got a email stating I needed more cash in reserves. Not sure what to make of this. Most of my cash is going toward down payment and outrageous closing cost. Not much in 401k as I’m just starting my career. My girlfriend and I use her check as savings. Which is in her name. Would the money we save be considered reserves even though the bank account isn’t in my name? Any insight or ideas are welcomed. We are considering her withdrawals by the money and gifting it to me to add to the reserves.
