Alabama foreclosure auction - tax certificate sold to 3rd party

I am interested in a foreclosure property going to auction, but noticed that the tax certificate has been sold to a third party.

The owner of the house passed away in 2019. The mortgage company paid the taxes in 2019. The property was foreclosed on in late 2019 but has not gone to auction yet.

The title search on the property was completed in October 2020 and there were no tax liens at that point.

In June of 2020 the tax certificate was bought by a 3rd party.

I talked to the attorneys office and it sounded like the tax certificate issue would fall on whoever wins the foreclosure auction. Does anyone have any experience with this situation?

What would the process be for getting the tax certificate? Also, what if the owner of the certificate refused to sign the redemption paperwork? After the foreclosure auction, who legally has the right to change the locks, secure the home, etc?

Thanks!
