Purchase & Cert. of Occupancy

Hi All, I am about to go into contract for a 2 fam house in NYC (Queens). The home was a single fam converted to a 2 fam years ago. There is no Certificate of Occupancy (CO) on file and from my understanding, the only way I can confirm the legal use of this building (as a 2 fam) is by getting a "Letter of no Objection" from the Department of Buildings. Does anyone know if there is a quicker way to verify the legal use of the dwelling?
