Trustee has not returned my EMD

Hi everyone,

I put an offer in on a house in Cleveland back in May but killed the transaction after finding some defects from the inspection. We had an inspection contingency in place and we were within the terms of my contract so everything was fine. However it has been over 6 weeks and I still have not received my earnest money deposit back. I spoke to the trustee and they said something about needing to wait until June month end. This was strange since I own other properties and have friends who own properties and no one I spoke to has heard this before re: EMD.

Has this ever happened to anyone?

My broader question is: is there a timeframe in which the title company is obligated to return your EMD? From googling it looks like it is different by jurisdiction but I couldn't find anything about Cleveland, OH. Not soliciting legal advice here, just looking for your experience/thoughts.

Thank you!
