Looking for buying help Muskegon, MI
Thinking about buying our first "weekly" style vacation rental home. We are looking in the Pere Marquette area of Muskegon, MI. We love to vacation in that area along with Holland and Grand Haven. This would be our first out of state purchase as well. I would like to have help finding current owners of this style in these areas, property managers along with just general info of the area (Pere Marquette) mostly.
Some basic thoughts with this purchase... Thinking of using this as our "summer" home later in life (15-20 yrs)..... Use as a weekly or long term rental currently... Purchase price around 100k after any fees to bring it up to rental status.

If you are willing to go just a wee bit further north, homes are very affordable and more year round with snowmobiling/skiing in the winter, color and hunting in the fall, beaches and state/federal parks in the summer, and mushrooming in the spring. We are toying with the idea of this too but are 2-3 years away from pulling the trigger on something but have looked in the Manistee/Traverse City/Cadillac triangle and there are some great buys still in that area. Keep in mind that beaches are only one of the draws for Michigan vacationers. There are also the woods, the rivers, and the inland lakes. Beach communities are usually the priciest of the bunch and other "less desirable" areas can actually cash flow better because of the more mixed draw of all the other entertainments available.
To the one who mentioned "high" vacancies in certain areas, Michigan high season won't start for another month since its quite cool in the spring that far north. Also, this year has been an exceptionally cold one. And Holland has the lowest vacancy right now because its Tulip Festival time.
