Should I buy this joint property?

Posted

Hi guys, I am going to buy a property which is half of a duplex. During home inspection, the inspector pointed out that there is no fire wall in the joint attic, which means the the attic is connected for both dwellings, which sounds insecure and not fire safe. Can I ask the seller to install a firewall? Or should I just give up the purchase? I forgot to mention that there is a whole in the attic of the other half’s which would allow birds flying in. I am afraid that it would be complicated to deal with the owner of the other half since it is duplex. Anybody has some experience and thoughts? What is more, there is no inspection sticker on the breaker panel. Is it a big deal? Will it affect the future selling of house? I would be really appreciate any information from you guys!
