House Hack Strategy Ideas in DFW

Hello all!

I’m a college student working part time to save up for a downpayment on either a duplex or a SFH property in the DFW area to house hack after I graduate. I’m specifically looking for anywhere around 30 minutes outside of the Westlake area as that’s where i’m expecting to work after I graduate.

After doing some research and reading through the forums I found that duplexes that are suitable for house hacking in the DFW area are hard to come by. After reading through Craig Curelop’s House Hacking Strategy book I think that the “rent by the room” strategy may work out better, since finding a duplex that would both lower living expenses while living in it and then cash flow after moving out seems to be nearly impossible in this part of Texas.

Am I correct in thinking this? I would love to hear the opinion of some investors on whether the SFH rent by the room or the Traditional Duplex house hack would be better to pursue in the DFW area.
