Does anyone know about the market in Michigan?

Nate Jefferson

I live in Lansing, Michigan and I’m looking to invest somewhere in Michigan, but I’m unsure of the market. I constantly here mixed reviews about the midwest and would love to hear from someone who is hands on in this market.

@Nate Jefferson welcome.. Well since I’m not sure of your budget, strategy, risk thresh hold, ..   i will just say.. If you want Detroit proper, You have many options. If Suburbs Research Oak Park, Warren, Eastpointe,Redford. I have many out of state/country getting good returns

Should be able to find decent investment properties close to you. There is an advantage of investing locally. If you don't know the market, start watching it. Look at properties for sale, look at houses and apartments for rent and see what they rent for and how soon they get leased. etc.

@Gary Carver From what I’ve head Detroit isn’t that great of a market anymore because of the decline of the area. Would it be logical to invest into that area right now?

Hi Nate! I am a newbie as well. I know people that have been investing in Detroit for 20+ years and still are to this day. Something that I have learned is that investing in Detroit is a block by block or area by area city. You have to drive around and learn the area because not all areas are the same. From what I hear cash flow is great but you have to do your research on where.

@Nate Jefferson yea A lot of investors are hesitant to invest in market. It definitely has its oak.  But I have personally had success and I have a lot of investors who have as well.  It’s not for everybody though

Hi Nate!  I'm not sure of your investment goals, but I have short term vacation rentals in southwest Michigan near the lake and that market is doing well!

Lansing is a great place to invest. I not only invest in the surrounding area but also work with individuals who have invested in Lansing and it has worked very well for them.

Hi @Nate Jefferson Grand Rapids is a great market! Still pretty affordable, cash flows well, and with the strong growth of the city and strong employers in the area, this is a good chance for continued appreciation. Would be happy to discuss the market in more detail sometime.

@Todd Atkinson Yes! We are in South Haven, MI.  We are on a few online travel agencies as well as our own website.  I wasn't sure if Nate was looking into short term rentals, so I figured I would mention it!
