Residential material for basement and kitchen

I am doing some remodeling at my moms house and looking for recommendations on material for basement and kitchen and temporary storage. I was going to use PODS, not sure if there is a cheaper option. Where do you get your materials for your rehab properties? Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look in the Skokie area?
