Buying/Renovating a Shell Cabin in Joshua Tree

Posted

Hey everyone! I'm curious to hear anyone's experiences with buying a house designated as a "recreational cabin" and bringing power/water/septic to it. I know there's been some recent changes to Joshua Tree laws/code in 2020 and was curious. The deals on shell cabins are great but my due diligence is showing there'd be a lot of costs associated with doing (either) solar/public electric; well/public water; septic; etc.

Curious if anyone took the leap on a shell cabin that had no utilities and if they felt it was worth the cost and the hassle, or if it wasn't worth it? I'd love to live in it part-time during the year and then AirBnB it part-time when I'm not there.
