How to fire a contractor when they have a lien on your home?

We are in the middle of a rehab and our contractor is dragging his feet (excuse and excuse). Have any of you ever fired a contractor that has a lien on your property in the contract?

Did he already put a lien or is it just something your contract says he can do? Because it doesn’t need to be in the contract for him to do it.

You can tell him you wanna cancel and settle up on any work completed. If you agree to a price, have him sign a lien waiver so he can’t go after you later.
