Checking title-foreclosure auction

Hey Guys,
I did a search but wasn't able to find much. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place!

Most of my real estate experience is large amounts of rental property and then some small development. I'm trying to branch into more development this year and less rentals.

Never bought anything at a county auction before and had a question regarding checking out the title. What do you recommend doing? There is a property I'm interested in but have heard horror stories of people buying places on the courthouse steps, only to have it taken from them a few weeks later by a different lien holder
