sheriff sale/probates/absent owner ideas to mail owners?

Hello!  Who has had some positive experiences/negative experiences in Real Estate with sheriff sale's, probates/absent owners?  I can not find letter content that is easily adapted.  It seems like most people do letters vs postcards in mailings like these?  Thoughts?
