Do I need an inspector or a GC/ structural engineer?

I have a client wanting to put in an offer on a house. It was built in 1943 and is basically a total gut and remodel. It is a pier and beam house... BEST case scenario it just needs to be releveled. Typically you have inspections done during the option period. Would I be better off to have a general contractor who specializes in remodeling come out instead of an inspector? Located in New Braunfels tx.
