Maximum of 4 mortgages at a time?

I've been hearing a lot about only being able to have 4 mortgages out at a time. Is this true? I guess if you put 25% down (30 yr fixed rate secondary loan), you could potentially refinance and pay one of them off completely. Are there any other strategies for this? Does an LLC allow you to have additional mortgages?
