Please don't post "Building a team..."

Please take this with a little humor. I don't want to offend anyone, but... I see posts and get lots of request for "Building a team" typically from newer members. Sounds something like this, and I'm sure you have seen it, got it too:

---- Hey, I'm a new investor and want to build a team. Looking for investor friendly realtors, attorneys, tax attorneys, property managers, handymens, roofers, etc.

And once you ask back what their experience is, you find out:

---- I'm new, I have no funding yet, I have no experience etc but I need this great team to be successful.

Great! So please, before you post this and send this type of message / requests, think what you can offer back? Why would any of those experienced people would want to work with you / invest their time and effort into you? Giving back to community is important, but being realistic with requests is important too. You WILL end up building your dream team, but it will take time and more effort on your end. Start small, one step a the time and in few years, you will have your dream team build throughout the process.

What is your take on this? Is this too harsh? Have you done this too? Did you build your team this way? Or if you got this type of message, did you follow up? Did you end up being part of that team?

@Jiri B.

Great post, I totally agree.

Simply asking for recommendations on folks to "build a team" isn't going to produce any results. Furthermore, I've spoken to dozens (I might've reached triple digits by now) of new members who need an "investor-friendly realtor" but don't really know what they're asking for. We typically exchange a few message or hop on a 15-minute call, but many won't take the next steps toward their goal. As if they expect 1 post or 1 phone call to land them their first deal... try 100 or 1,000 calls! Thats a more realistic call-per-deal ratio...

To piggyback off of what you posted here, I think new members should get VERY specific for what they are looking for and why they're on this journey to begin with.

Instead of writing "I'm looking to build a team in Queens, NY to help me buy my first property", get to the point so that you can find folks to help you with your specific plan. i.e. "I'm looking to find a lender, realtor and attorney to guide me on purchasing my first multi-family property in X neighborhoods, preferably within the $X-X price range by May 2020".

I love the fact that BP has so many great tools, resources and members. The best way for new members to utilize BP starts with getting very clear on one's own goals and gameplan.

Happy New Year!
