Finding deals with Preforeclosures, Foreclosures, Bankruptcies et

Hey BP family!  I'm looking at purchasing a foreclosure, however, am not sure about the best way to get a "deal" on these types of properties.  Is a preforeclosure better than a foreclosure or bankruptcy?  This is a new area I've just started exploring and want to see if y'all have any recommendations or things to watch out for... Thank you!!
