Financial Runway - Becoming a Broker

For those of you who have successful careers as brokers, what kind of resources and time did it take before you were able to get established enough to support yourself/your family? In other words, how many months expenses did you have saved in the bank and how long did it take you to start earning commissions? I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone who transitioned from another career and jumped in full time. Thanks!
