Wholesaling contracts - how long to hold?

I’ve done some flips and rentals but want to do some wholesaling. One question I have is when I go under contract for a property and put a 30 day close, what if it doesn’t close? Do wholesalers extend these, drop the deal or??? Just wondering what the conversation is like with the seller. Something like “I’m looking for an investor to purchase your home, need more time...”? Any advice is appreciated!
