HUD Investing in 2019

Hi everyone, 

I am new to the BP community and I feel like I am late to the party at 38, but better late than never! 

I want to see better returns that what my IRA/the S&P is generating and am looking to buy in to real estate at the lowest possible price point. I see some posts about investing in HUD from 2007-2017 but nothing in the last two years. Has the HUD space been dominated by house hackers (those who will owner occupy, rehab, and then rent out)? Is there anyone out there still investing in HUD for straight cash flow?

If so, I am looking to connect and hear about your experiences.  I am an attorney so I can also offer help in other areas.
