Meth House Disclosure taken back?

Monica T.
Posted

Hello this is my first post on BP!

I wanted to ask for some advice, as I am about to purchase my first home ever (actually it is my second home, since it is more than 100mi from where I live).

I received the seller's disclosure on a remodeled home that I was about to buy, and it had a "yes" checked to "Previous Use of Premises for Manufacture of Methamphetamine" - the disclosure also says to explain further - but there was no mention of anything further on this topic (aside from a note about the roof).

I asked my real estate agent about this, and she said she had not realized that had a yes for meth house and was going to investigate with the seller.

She came back and said it was a mistake.  Now although I want to believe that, I just can't help feel like something is wrong.  I want to have the house tested for meth.

A few questions I have:  Would this test be part of the home inspection test that I will be paying for?  Or should this be a test that the seller pays?  Also, is there a huge downside to buying this house, if say, it is actually true that it was a meth house, but it is now testing clean?  The house I'm buying is for my mother to live in.

Thanks for your help!
