New investor - local market is high, how about long distance?

I'm a new investor have only purchased my own home and I'm looking to buy: from Duplex to Fourplex. My home market in Miami Florida is too expensive and cash on cash would not be the best for ROI.

What are your thoughts on long distance investment? Where do I start?
