Negotiating sellers agent commission

This may be a dum question but...

As a buyer has anyone ever had a scenario where you were able to convince a sellers agent to cut you in on their commission. In a situation where I find the deal myself. Where I use my attorney to write my offer or I agree to let the seller’s agent become a dual agent.

They say the seller pays the fees, but in reality the buyer does and it’s just padded into the cost. Is is illegal for them to cut me in? Is it tacky to ask? Living in a state where commissions on average are above 20k, I’m just looking for ways to cost save.
