Moving to California - How are Home Prices? Is it worth the Move?

Hello, I'm thinking about moving to California and having around $250k in cash to spend on a house. Is this enough to live in California and live in a nice quiet neighborhood split level type of house? 3 or 4 beds, 2 car garage, 2 bath etc.? Thanks.

Where in California?
I am in Northern California and I can say that if you $250k is a nice down payment in many cities in the bay area. However, $250k will get you a nice home in Sacramento or similar areas. In Southern California you can expect the same types of pricing in many cities.
