Subject To - Additional Homeowners Insurance Policy

Taking a property subject-to with an escrowed mortgage payment. Typically in the past when I've done this, I'd take out an additional homeowners insurance policy under my name. I was concerned that if something happened and the previous owner with the policy being paid through the escrow account wasn't on title that they may not pay out.

Do you think it's necessary to take out an additional policy? Do you think if the policy holder wasn't on title that an insurance company would not pay?

My insurance guy in the past told me to take out another policy so that's what I did, but I have not researched this topic enough.
