Where would I find the "best properties" to invest in?

I am not sure where to look, everyone says stay away from listed homes. Okay, I can do that but where will I find the other homes?

How do I track down the owner of a fixer upper?

I'm new to this so I have a ton of questions.

Yasmine,

Since you are new, I would recommend spending some time searching the forums (and blogs) for your answers, as many of them have been answered before. I am not trying to discourage you from asking questions, but it might save you some trouble. As for this particular question it is difficult to answer and can be very market specific. People have many different strategies for finding investment properties including yellow letter campaigns, working with REO brokers, foreclosure auctions, MLS, etc.

I am not sure why people have told you to stay away from listed homes. We have found most of our investment properties on the MLS and have been very successful thus far. No matter how you look for properties you will come across many poor choices compared to good investments, so make sure you are skilled in analysis to separate good investments from poor ones.
