Picking a Broker in Myrtle Beach SC

Does anyone have any advice on what things I should look for in a broker.  I am a brand new licensse here in the North Myrtle Beach, SC. area.  I have had some correspondence with a few local brokers, and I am going to be meeting with a few next week.

Beyond the normal things that an agent would normally ask a broker during a sit down, what sorts of things should I make sure to ask?  Are there any hidden transaction fees that I should get clarification on?  Would it be in poor taste to try and negotiate a higher split than what may initially be offered?

I am just getting started as an agent.  I really want to make a great brokerage decision. I have kind of been torn on whether to go with a small local company, or one of the larger national chains.  I guess there are advantages and disadvantages to both.   Any advice you guys can give me would be great.
