Affiliated with a firm as a broker but wanting to wholesale

The question is if you are a broker with a firm and you want to wholesale deals in your own personally name is the firm entitled to any of the profit? Should a real estate firm be able to control if their brokers do wholesale deals on their own with no help or use to the brokerage firm they work with? If so what is a fair split on the profit?
