Pension or Single Family Rentals?

I am considering using my pension proceeds to purchase 2-3 single family rentals. The pension options are $1079/mo. or ~235,000 lump sum. Of course, I can roll that into an IRA and avoid the tax for now. But, it seems like if I take the lump sum, pay the taxes and purchase rentals free and clear, I come out ahead on monthly income.
