Wholesale Contract Expiration?

Hello fellow BP members!

I am new to the website and very much appreciate everyone's expertise.

This is the first distressed property I found through a wholesaler to fix and flip. The wholesale contract expires in a few days and I don't know if were able to close that quickly. What happens after the contract expires? Can we contact the property owner directly and purchase from him?  (ps. the wholesaler already has already extended the contract, so this is it)

Thanks all!
