Finding leads for commission, but where to start?

I listened to the Biggerpockets podcast yesterday, I forget which episode it was, but Brandon and David discussed providing other people value. One of the methods they discussed was finding leads for people who are already investing in real estate. Currently I'm saving money to make my first purchase and I feel as though this would be a strong way to network and create relationships. I'm looking for some help directing me on the right path to lead development. I believe this is something I could get really good at, as they said, "I do not fear the man that knows 10,000 kicks. I fear the man that practiced one kick 10,000 times.". If I could what other investors are looking for and successfully help by generating leads, when I'm ready to begin investing I'll know exactly what I'm looking for to increase my odds of success. Any and all help will be appreciated.
