San Diego: Willing to rehab homes for free

Been reading a lot about RE and I want to start but don't have enough captial yet. So my second option is to work with someone that is currently buying stressed homes and rehabbing them. Removing carpets, sweeping floors, painting walls, whatever. I'm willing to give up my weekends to help in exchange show me whatever it is that needs to be done. Bit of my background. Located in San Diego. In my late twenties. Currently holding a full-time job in software and wants to GTFO from 9-5. I've done some rehab on homes when I was younger. Read plenty of RE books, just need real world experience to bring things together.

Hi Joseph, welcome to the forum. Your enthusiasm and willingness to get involved in awesome, From someone who has been there wanted to get involved I'd like to offer some unsolicited advice.

Being free labor for someone doesn't add much value, we can hire folks fairly affordably. Its just a liability and more work for us on the job site. It would be much more productive to study and get your real estate license, work finding deals for people etc. Deal flow is the bottleneck for almost all investors, if you can assist in sourcing deals you'll be providing serious value and learning how to find your own deals.
