DFW First In Country For Housing Starts

DALLAS (Dallas Morning News) – North Texas had more annual home starts in the first quarter than any other U.S. metro, according to data from Metrostudy Inc.

DFW homebuilders started 33,601 units, placing well head of second-place Houston with 27,675 starts. Central Florida was third with 24,958.

Austin ranked ninth with 16,457 home starts.

North Texas home starts were up almost 12 percent in the first quarter. Last year, local builders started over 33,000 homes, the strongest production total in a decade.

Median home prices in North Texas have jumped by about 40 percent in the last five years. DFW has been the top homebuilding market for several years.
