City Bans short-term rentals in tourist destination neighborhood

The City of Orange Beach, AL has implemented a ban on short-term rentals for houses located in neighborhoods. Making the minimum stay 2 weeks. No doubt, this is outrageous and frustrating for those that do extremely well with AirBNB type properties in this coastal, popular tourist destination.

  • Anyone own a property in Orange Beach that is being affected by this?
  • If you owned a property and this happened, how would you react?
  • For those of you in Gulf Shores and Pensacola / Perdido Key, do you think those cities will follow suit?

"however it's unconstitutional to restrict use of a person's property"

Not a big fan of it myself, but restricting use of property has been happening forever. That's why you can't have an industrial building in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Allowing someone to put their septic field upstream and over your well is frowned upon. Running a business that increases traffic 590% in front of your house gets shut down. It is part of choosing where you live and what community you want to be part of. Noise ordinances, parking ordinances, maximum grass height all have an effect on your neighbors right to quiet enjoyment of their property.
