recession cycle analysis discussion

Hi, I wonder if anyone can explain me recession cycles like I am 5. I know about 2008 one, and what have caused it. What are other cycles and what was the impact for RE? I was reading an article which claims it happens each 10 years. All right, following it we can assume that it should start now. But probably not... I wonder if you could also cite some online resources for reading on this topic.
