Second FHA Larger Family Size Requirements
Hi! The FHA website says an exception for a second FHA loan may be approved due to increases in family size. I currently have one FHA loan on a 3-unit multifamily home. My family size will be increasing this year because I am getting married. I will meet the one year primary residence requirement on my current FHA loan before I get married. I would like to buy another multifamily home after I get married using a second FHA loan. I do not plan on refinancing my current FHA loan. Both homes would be in Chicagoland, Illinois.
- Are there any underwriters who work with FHA loans that can tell me what the requirements are to meet the increased family size exception for a second FHA mortgage?
- Does the unit in which I would be living have to be bigger than the one I'm currently living in now?
- If it does have to be bigger, how is that determined (by number of bedrooms or square feet)?
- Does anyone have examples of how they met this exception?
Thanks!
Sean
