Building multi-unit in huge lot

Hi,

We recently saw a property that has a huge lot and zoned for multi-units. How much of an effort would it be to build a multi-unit? We are a couple with full-time jobs and 2 kids. How do we start about researching for the construction and the associated plans and best combination to maximize rentals?
