Does anyone know about a Series LLC?

I heard a little bit about Series LLC's but still a little confused on how it works. I am wondering if anyone is doing this? How does this LLC work and how is it different then just a regular LLC? What are the risk of having a Series LLC? What are the benefits? When would you recommend changing a LLC to a Series LLC?
