$1,000 property offered to me...Interesting

So, I was offered a property at $1,000 and it is next door to our loft in the middle of nowhere West Texas, population 600. It is inside of an old main street store that is now non-existent. It needs a ton of work, and if I were remotely lucky I could get $500-$600 a month. I attached some pictures of it. I live there and commute because Midland , TX has astronomical rent prices (not buying yet). What are some of your thoughts?

@Tony Whitaker You and the seller know the property and city/town much better than any of us here.  My gut feeling is that you're buying an "obligation" more than anything else.  Sure you can get it fixed up but it looks like every single surface needs to be touched, gutted, etc.  What happens if (upon sale) the good folks over in code enforcement decide to meander down the street?  Now you're up a Midland creek with no paddle.
