Hello BP family!

Recently while researching on property addresses I am coming across slightly different info as in:

If I google the address on Realtor.com the crime statistics shows very dark red and the same address on trulia will show moderate crime rate meaning yellow. What would you suggest to look for and keep in mind while researching the area to invest in.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Bianca

@Bianca G.

Trulia gets their data from CrimeReports.com, EveryBlock.com and SpotCrime.com

Realtor.com gets their data from Location Inc's CrimeRisk reporting.

Ultimately, they are both gathering data from law enforcement agencies, but how they map it will be different. The problem is that most data sources will use the data by the agency that reported it, not the actual location of the crime. This give a very broad reporting to a town, and not which part of the town.

Alternatively, you can use a separate site like Neighborhoodscout.com, which tries to remove the reporting issues from their data and will give neighborhood level reporting on their maps.
